This anthology contains carefully selected poems intended to appeal to secondary school learners. The selection has taken into account a number of pertinent factors, which include variety of subject matter, differing poetic styles, techniques and forms. Setting has also been considered in the sense that the poems have been taken from different parts of the world, such as Africa, Europe, the Caribbean, the USA and Asia.
Nonhlanhla Vilakati teaches Biblical Studies in the Department of Theology and Religion at UNISWA. Her area of specialization is text analysis to which she disposed her undergraduate training as a double major in Theology and Religious Studies and English Language and Literature. Vilakati is an active interdisciplinary researcher, which explains her undying love for literature and reading.
Lucy Dlamini is a lecturer at UNISWA in the Department of English Language and Literature. She is also the author of the novel, The Amaryllis, and a siSwati play, Kuba Njalo Nje. Dlamini has also co-edited some poetry anthologies, such as The Soul Selects and When Fishes Flew. She has also contributed some short stories in the anthology, Africa Kills Her Sun.
Professor Adrian A. Roscoe is a world renowned Literature scholar and writer who has taught in many universities in Africa and elsewhere, such as Malawi, Kenya and South Africa. He is also a distinguished writer and critic who has authored such landmark critical works as Mother Is God, Uhuru’s Fire and The Columbia Guide to Central African Literature.
