Amazing things happen when we come together with a shared purpose—especially when that purpose is peace and making a meaningful contribution to society.
We were proud to partner with Philani Maswati, the Eswatini National Trust Commission (ENTC), and the Eswatini National Commission for UNESCO to offer primary and high school learners a meaningful cultural exchange experience during this year’s edition of Eswatini’s Biggest Braai 2025.
The excitement was palpable as learners engaged, asked insightful questions, and connected with elements of their heritage in a way that was both interactive and enriching. These are the moments that plant the seeds of pride, identity, and unity in the next generation.
The event aimed to educate students about the history, rich culture, and origins as hunter-gatherers of one of Africa’s oldest indigenous groups—the Khoisan.
The program began with an enlightening session delivered by a representative from the National Trust Commission, who shared the fascinating history of the Khoisan people. Learners were encouraged to ask questions, which led to thoughtful inquiries such as:
“How do the Khoisan brush their teeth?”
“What do they use to moisturize their skin?”
“What do they use to cut meat?”
“What do they wear when it’s cold or raining?”
“How old is the Khoisan community?”
Following the educational session, the Khoisan group captivated the audience with a performance of their traditional dance. Since the Khoisan do not speak siSwati, an interpreter was present to ensure smooth communication between the group and the learners.
To reinforce the day’s teachings, learners were tested on the content of the lecture. Teachers from both primary and high school levels posed questions, and learners submitted their answers within a timed format.
During the prize-giving ceremony, Imisebe Publishing’s Managing Director, Hlob’sile Stromvig, expressed her excitement in partnering with Philani Maswati. In her address, she emphasized how fortunate the students were to witness the Khoisan in person—a rare and educational opportunity.
Imisebe Publishing recognized and rewarded schools that excelled during the session. Prizes included world globes, branded string bags, Imisebe T-shirts, and copies of Umphandza, the siSwati monolingual dictionary. To make the event even more memorable, Imisebe Publishing also sponsored the stage and sound system. In total, Imisebe contributed E20,000 towards the event.
A representative from the Ministry of Education also delivered remarks, commending Philani Maswati for organizing the open lecture under the banner of Biggest Braai 2025, and praising Imisebe Publishing for its consistent support in advancing education in Eswatini. She highlighted Imisebe’s ongoing efforts to contribute to educational development and to help the ministry illuminate the future of Eswatini’s learners.
The event was closed by the Director of Philani Maswati, Mr. Lutfo Dlamini, who expressed his gratitude to Imisebe Publishing for their generous sponsorship and support. He also announced an exciting car-spinning show to entertain the learners after the lecture—ending the day on a high and unforgettable note.
