Swazi National High School emerged as the victors of the highly competitive 2023 Sibitelo neMisebe competition, triumphing over Gamula High School from the Lubombo region. The event took place on June 30th at the Royal Science and Technology Park and showcased the dedication and talent of four schools representing different regions in the country.
The thrilling finals commenced with Ekudvwaleni High School challenging Swazi National High School. It was a closely contested match, with Swazi National High School ultimately securing victory with a score of 64 points to 56 points. The initial lead by Ekudvwaleni High School was soon eclipsed by the outstanding performance of Swazi National High School’s last two students.
The following match featured Gamula High School against Hlathikulu Central High School, and it proved to be a nail-biter. The two schools demonstrated their exceptional preparedness, resulting in a narrow win for Gamula High School with a score of 64 points to 61 points. Unfortunately, Hlathikulu Central High School fell short due to one incorrect word.
The grand finale pitted Gamula High School against Swazi National High School, and it was a challenging yet exhilarating contest. The words provided in this ultimate showdown were demanding, testing the students’ spelling and typing skills. Ultimately, Swazi National High School’s determination and preparation paid off as they emerged victorious, securing the prestigious title of 2023 Sibitelo NeMisebe champions.
Guest of Honour Professor Zodvwa Motsa-Madikane delivered a poignant message to the students, emphasizing the importance of preserving their language. He underscored that when a language is lost, a significant part of the culture is also lost. This event was a testament to the dedication and talent of Swazi National High School and the other participating schools, highlighting the significance of language and culture in Eswatini.
