The first consultative meeting, with the theme “Connecting to Build a Reading Nation”, was held at The George Hotel and was attended by more than 20 librarians and development agencies. Among the attendees was Dinoe Dlamini, a representative from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), who made a representation on behalf of the Secretary General for Eswatini National Commission. UNESCO is a specialized United Nations organization that was established in 1946.
In Eswatini, authors and publishers are facing a significant challenge in conducting their business due to the perceived lack of reading culture. Publishers tend to focus on materials that appeal to the school market because they can guarantee a return on their investment.
In an effort to level the playing field for everyone in the industry, Imisebe Publishers has initiated consultations to develop a strategy aimed at improving the reading culture among Emaswati for the benefit of all. The goal is to create a reading nation that promotes literacy and a love for reading.
